About the Job

As a teacher at the Department of Soil and Environment, you will teach basic and applied soil science related to the urban sector. The courses are primarily aimed at the landscape engineering and landscape architecture programs.

Alongside teaching duties, you will participate in investigation assignments within the department's FOMA activities. The assignments will vary over time but will often consist of investigation projects initiated in dialogue with our clients, who are usually the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency. Applicants should have a university degree (at least a bachelor's) in environmental science, landscape architecture, agronomy, or equivalent. Practical experience in dealing with exploitation issues or working at a landscape architecture firm is advantageous.

You should have documented experience teaching at the university level in basic soil science. Experience in course leadership is also advantageous.

Experience in collecting and statistically analyzing various types of data and previous experience in investigative work within public administration is advantageous. Good communication skills are useful for carrying out planned investigative assignments, as the work includes many contacts with various involved parties.

About Us

The Department of Soil and Environment is a leading soil science center, both nationally and internationally. We research soil properties and fundamental functions, as well as study how environmental and climate changes affect soil. Through research, environmental analysis, and education, we contribute knowledge about future sustainable land use and develop new solutions to inform decisions in agriculture, forestry, and urban environments. The working environment at the department is international, and we have about 100 employees.

Research is conducted within seven subject groups focusing on soil nutrient cycling, soil chemistry, soil biology, soil mechanics and tillage, biogeophysics, water management and water quality, and the biogeochemistry of forest soils. We are responsible for important research infrastructure in the form of soil chemical and soil physical laboratories, a computer tomography, long-term experiments, a lysimeter facility, and field research stations Lanna and Lövsta that provide infrastructure for crop trials. The department participates in about 30 courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

We are part of SLU's Soil, Water, and Environment Center (MVM Center), with close ties to environmental analysis and research on water, cycles, and bioenergy. Our activities contribute to meeting national environmental and climate goals and the UN's global sustainability goals. The department is located at Campus Ultuna in Uppsala and Skara.
